Muses for the Holiday Season 2017

By Nancy L. Rommelmann, Family Law Attorney –

On Hurricane Harvey . . .

Showed the world how the people of Houston, the fourth largest city in the US, the most diverse city in Texas and most racially and ethnically diverse major metropolis, stepped up to take care of each other and how it should be done!

Hope, inspiration and ingenuity (i.e. the Cajun Army and countless volunteers) replaced and transcended the chaos and differences among people that some media sources and people frequently crave.

Be reminded that as “Harvey” issues subside, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.”  May we aspire/endeavor to mimic the indubitable human spirit of both survival and outpouring of giving that was reflected by so many people during “Harvey” and may it long outlast post “Harvey” issues.

On America . . .

“We must never remain silent in the face of bigotry. We must condemn those who seek to divide us. In all quarters and at all times, we must teach tolerance and denounce racism, anti-Semitism and all ethnic or religious bigotry wherever they exist as unacceptable evils. We have no place for haters in America — none, whatsoever.” – Ronald Reagan

On Media . . .

May people take note to follow media sources that choose not to view mankind solely through a myopic lens of negativity and sensationalism, but with a fuller perspective that includes goodness, hope and positivity.

And might we question the sources of social media that we choose to allow into our daily lives and those of our children, via smart phone, television and radio stations?  Is it good? Is it making you a better person?  Is it true, right and salutary and not furthering a phony and largely negative perspective of the world?

On the Houston Astros . . .

The Astros were resolute in embracing their role in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, by lending their time, resources and giving us a thrill of a lifetime with their epic series resulting in winning the World Serie title!  Thanks for the memories!

Sincerely wishing you and your loved ones a most peaceful,  memorable and blessed Holiday Season! – NLR
