Celebrations of Appreciation

Hello Katy! It’s officially May. Can you believe it? We are in the homestretch for the school year! With it comes all of those things we have to do to bring the school year to a close. Ask any parent of school-aged children, and they will tell you that May is insane with finals, projects, end of the year banquets, prom, graduation, finding that lost library book . . . the list goes on and on. In my home, May should just be called Mayhem, because it’s crazy and makes us long for the quiet days of summer just around the corner.

But buried in the insanity, the one thing I do love about May in Katy is that it is also Appreciation Month, which includes Teacher Appreciation Week and the widely anticipated, district-wide Volunteer Appreciation Celebration steeped in fun, reverence and tradition. These are events that people so look forward to every year that despite how crazy the end of the school year gets, they still make time for them.  And that’s what we focused on in this issue of absolutely! Katy. The Katy ISD Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS) Celebration is the largest volunteer appreciation party in the area highlighting the contributions and people that make Katy ISD the amazing place it is. Not only does Katy ISD make time to celebrate them, they make these volunteers a huge priority that speaks to the heart of Katy.

Every year at this time, I look forward to celebrating several of the things that make Katy great. It keeps me sane and makes the mayhem worthwhile. I hope you take some time to do the same this month! Say thank you to the staff, teachers and volunteers that make Katy ISD one of the best districts in the state and nation. Be sure to send us your photos and memories of these celebrations, and I hope you have an absolutely! wonderful May!

Absolutely! yours,

Liz Johnson
