Houston Methodist West Hospital Offers Community Comprehensive Heart Program

For many decades, Houston has been the center of world-class heart care. Thanks in large part to Dr. Michael DeBakey and his revolutionary impact, that same care is available closer to home today. At Houston Methodist West Hospital, the only fully comprehensive heart program in the Katy area, an expert team practices the most advanced techniques to provide better treatments for patients. From heart scans and chest pain emergencies to cardiac surgery and rehabilitation, the hospital’s diverse team of cardiologists, electrophysiologists, surgeons and staff have the training, education and experience to treat virtually any patient need.

While many community hospitals offer catheterization procedures, which diagnose and treat heart conditions, Houston Methodist West is unique in offering this community cardiovascular surgery – including robotic – when the need arises. “We’re one of only a handful of institutions performing catheterizations through an artery in the wrist,” said Vicki Brownewell, vice president of heart services. “And we have the only hybrid operating room in the community, a special room that uses cutting-edge imaging technology to perform catheterization procedures within the safety of an operating room (OR), which can be converted to a full OR at any point without moving the patient. These are just two of many examples we have that provide safer and minimally invasive heart care to patients.”

Houston Methodist West is accredited as a Chest Pain Center with percutaneous intervention by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care and has a three-star rating by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, placing it in the top 10 percent of U.S. programs.
