Katy Independent School District invited parents, students, staff and community members to the dedication ceremony of its 40th elementary campus, Bryant Elementary School (BES).  Its mascot is the Bengal tiger, known for its strength, intelligence and keen sense of curiosity.

The school proudly displays Robert “Bob” and Felice Bryant’s name because of their exemplary devotion to education and to Katy ISD students.  Both have been dedicated educators for a combined total of over 70 years, and together they have dedicated 55 years to Katy ISD.  “This couple has been an instrumental part of the Katy ISD legacy,” said Superintendent Lance Hindt. “They are building upon the values and beliefs that our educational excellence was founded on.”

Both Bob and Felice have brought learning to life.  In 1982, they moved to Katy, Texas where Bob settled in as the head band director for Katy High School.  He later served as the fine arts department chair and was then promoted to executive director of fine arts for Katy ISD in 2000.  Felice began her career in Katy ISD as a kindergarten teacher at Williamsburg Settlement, now Winborn Elementary.  She spent the remainder of her career teaching kindergarten and first grade at Katy Elementary and was selected as the Campus Teacher of the Year in 1997. The Bryant family has made Katy their home, and it is where they raised all three of their children.  They continue to be a huge part of the Bryant school community and can be found volunteering, as well as reading stories to students at the campus.

“Today, 35 years later, we stand before you very overwhelmed and deeply humbled to be the namesakes of this amazing and remarkable school,” said Felice Bryant. “With every high-five, every fist pump, every hug and smile, our hearts are overflowing with love,” added Bob Bryant.

During the dedication ceremony, attendees enjoyed a special performance by the BES Singing Bengals.  Additionally, special presentations were made by the office of Senator Lois W. Kolkhorst, Representative John Zerwas and Representative Mike Schofield.
