Common Men’s Health Issues

Dr. Ramesh Krishnan, a urologist affiliated with Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital, is passionate about raising awareness for urology-related conditions in men, such as prostate cancer, BPH (enlarged prostate) and erectile dysfunction.

“Urologists are specialists in all areas of men’s health and are uniquely qualified to diagnose and treat prostrate disease, prostate cancer, sexual dysfunction and low testosterone,” said Dr. Krishnan. “We are always striving to help men lead happier, healthier lives.”

According to the Urology Care Foundation, about one in nine men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetimes, and erectile dysfunction affects as many as 30 million men.

“Prostate health can greatly impact many aspects of the health and well-being of men,” said Dr. Krishnan. “It’s worth having the discussion with your doctor. Prostate cancer is the No. 2 leading cause of cancer death in men. Erectile dysfunction can be associated with other vascular and cardiovascular issues. When patients want to discuss erectile dysfunction, we have to go back to the basics, such as an EKG or stress test. It’s typically more than an isolated issue.”

Another common issue that Dr. Krishnan sees is BPH or enlargement of the prostate. The prostate is a gland that sits under the bladder in men. It can grow larger with age and cause urinary problems like a slow stream or getting up at night to urinate. Not only can it be a bother, but if left untreated, it can lead to permanent bladder and kidney damage.

Dr. Krishnan and his partners practice at Memorial Hermann Medical Group, located on the campus of Memorial Hermann Katy on I-10 West, just west of the Grand Parkway.  To make an appointment, call 713.830.9100.
