There are many things that people don’t mind waiting for; emergency medical treatment is usually not one of them. With the introduction of free-standing emergency rooms, patients are finding that not only do they have more options when choosing medical care, the experience can be less stressful and much more comfortable for both young and old.
Priority Emergency Room, which recently opened off of South Fry in the Seven Meadows neighborhood, has a welcoming atmosphere. The reception area looks more like a nice living room. With comfortable sofas and chairs, a large television, table and chairs with wi-fi, you could relax with a cup of coffee or snacks, if you needed to, but don’t expect to make yourself too much at home because one of the top priorities is seeing patients quickly and getting them either back home or checked-in to a nearby hospital.
Owned by four board certified physicians with 40 years of combined emergency medicine
experience, they came together with a common goal. “We are here to provide access to top notch medical care in a very comfortable setting,” says Dr. Winnie King. She, along with partners, Dr. Krystina Huynh, Dr. Jorge Zeballos, and Dr. Mary Elizabeth Horrigan, all worked together before opening Priority Emergency Room and are specially trained in emergency medicine.
Open 24 hours every day and equipped with an onsite lab, CT Scan and X-Ray, patients are seen quickly upon arrival. Along with drugs that are available from the on-site lab, reports can be sent electronically to be read and can also be burned onto a CD.
You can expect to find the same services as a regular hospital ER. Broken bones can be set, lacerations taken care of and bronchial infections evaluated. Patients can then choose to follow-up with their regular physicians. Other emergency situations, such as heart attacks, can also be cared for. The emergency room is equipped with a crash cart and all of the equipment and medica
tions close at hand. With access to local cardiologists on speed dial, you can feel confident in knowing that you are receiving the best possible care.
If it is determined that you need to be admitted to a local hospital, the entire registration process can be completed before you even get there so that you can be brought straight to a room.
The personalized service continues into the insurance billing, as most major insurance plans are accepted.
The physicians at Priority Emergency Room take special pride in all of the staff that they employ, and they are especially friendly to kids. A special exam room decorated with plenty of colorful and fun art is one of the special ways to make kids feel more at ease. Animal crackersand cold juice can be enjoyed while watching the televisions that are also in the exam room. Lenae Amerine, the director of nursing, has 11 years of nursing experience. “We are very proud of our staff,” explains Dr. King. “We didn’t hire anyone that is not top notch and very well regarded in their field.”
Not limited to emergency situations, the physicians at Priority Emergency room can perform sports physicals for local students as well as pre-employment physicals for adults.
“We are happy to be part of the Katy community,” says Dr. King, “and to be able to take care of sick people with the best care in themost comfortable setting.”
