Window treatments can add so much in your home. They can provide privacy, insulation, absorb sound, protect your floors and furniture from UV rays, and many more benefits. But, we are going to talk about the beauty of window treatments!
Window treatments set the tone and feel of your room. You can make your room elegant, rustic, playful, or cozy. There are no rules today for what treatment and style go with your furnishings. This is a great area to make a personal statement. Often window treatments are the first thing people see when entering a space. There are so many options and choices, so let’s talk about a few ideas!
If you want a dramatic feel, for example a dining room, you may have panels framing your windows in a luxurious silk fabric in a bold rich color. Add trim to the treatment and puddle it to the floor if you want to take it one step further. Remember to make the panels full! You don’t want to have a skimpy panel in a formal setting.
For a more cozy room, like your bedroom or sitting room, linen has been a really popular choice. Fabric companies have come out with a variety of linen prints; don’t be afraid to have pattern on your panels. You could have an over scale pattern for panels or a small print for valances.
Another thing to do is layer fabrics. For a valance in a kitchen, you may want a large pattern on the face of your treatment, and then, contrast it in a smaller pattern or a solid fabric. Layer things up. They don’t have to be plain and boring. Window treatments can express your personality! Show it off!
One last tip: Many times people tend to skimp on the hardware. Your hardware is shown off just as much as the fabric and trim. Make sure it is complimentary to the window treatment style and the setting of the room. I know window treatments can be overwhelming, but remember, they can be fun as well!
